It is well-known that Boccaccio’s Decameron played a salient part in the development of Italian Renaissance comedy, as the theatrical character of many of its novellas is associated with their well-nigh ubiquitous comic nature, which is manifested in a variety of forms, such as aspects of farce or parody, a conspiratorial plot, qui pro quo, disguises and dressing-up games, and the ever-present verbal or situational beffa – rather complicated sometimes.
